I just ran across an interesting new utility for my MacBook Pro. You may know that Apple laptops run pretty warm. The fans turn only as fast as necessary to keep the machine within the “normal” temperature range for operation. The end result, you get a warm, but quiet machine. Enter smcFanControl. This nifty piece of software lets you override the automatic fan settings for your MacBook Pro (and MacBook), so you can force your fans to run at full blast. The end result — a louder machine that runs signficantly cooler.
